Aaron and I are both committed foodies, and we agreed that the food needed to be fabulous at our wedding. For appetizers, we had a cheese wheel cake (hey, it’s Wisconsin, had to be done).
The cheese wheels we used (from the bottom up) were Sartori Parmesan, The Robin Colby, Roth Buttermilk Blue, and Humboldt Fog (this is the most amazing cheese I have ever had). Delicious, and beautiful. Shout out to West Allis Cheese, who procured the cheese for us.
We had two good friends do the cutting. Cue multiple “Chief Cheese Cutter” jokes.
I purchased the cake topper from Amazon.

We served some charcuterie along with the cheese, including a Serrano Ham. This was delicious, and for under 200 dollars (it’s 50 extra for the foot. We opted for no foot) quite visually appealing for a wedding or party. We got quite a few “wow you have a pig leg at your wedding” comments. It was ordered off of Amazon…Seranno Ham

We also served some other various sliced meats. Some Alma Gourmet Bresaola Punta D’Anca, Molinari & Sons San Francisco Italian Dry Salami, Alma Gourmet Speck Alto Adige, and of course a shrimp platter. Although this method of serving appetizers did require some elbow grease (I was slicing 10 lbs of meat two days before the wedding), it definitely did provide a delicious alternative to catered appetizers at about the same price.

For dinner we served a more traditional “wedding” style dinner, catered by a local Milwaukee favorite, Bunzel’s Meat Market (and catering). I highly recommend them, they were a dream to work with, I absolutely could not have had a better experience. We chose the beef in gravy, chicken in sauce and stuffed pork chops (which were amazing)
Then there was the cake. Yes I made the cake. Believe it or not, I had to fight Aaron to do it. I can’t tell you how many conversations started with “You’re not making our wedding cake”. You can see how that went…
The cake itself is a WASC (White almond sour cream). There are multiple recipes online but basically it’s a box mix that’s doctored for flavor and stability. The layers were torted and filled with raspberry filling, dark chocolate ganache, and homemade lemon curd. Finally, I did a bare scraping of Swiss Meringue Buttercream.
I absolutely did not make the flowers on the cake. If I had, they’d look worse than if my child had done them. I’m not good at that!! I purchased them from Caljava Online, which is why they look perfect and beautiful.

And it wouldn’t be a party without candy for the kids. I will give you one piece of advice, it you have kids at your wedding, take the pounds of candy you planned to buy and double it. Our candy was gone within minutes, except the extra trays of Esther Price Chocolates that I hid away and doled out later in the evening. You can barely see them hiding behind the “Love”, under the shelf. Smartest thing I did.

And finally, we wanted to make sure everyone was well fed after drinking and dancing all night (as well as allowing people to camp and providing a driver in case people felt too intoxicated to drive. Drink Responsibly!!) So some midnight snacks were in order. My son rallied the kids and we had hotdogs, popcorn, and cotton candy.
