This isn’t so much a recipe as it is a memory. When I was a little girl and through my teen years, my favorite place to eat was The Golden Lamb in Lebanon Ohio. It’s Ohio’s oldest inn, and when you’re eating there you can tour the inn where many famous people stayed, including many presidents, as well as Mark Twain and Charles Dickens. If you get a chance to stop by I highly recommend it. The food has always been great in a very traditional American way. They’ve updated the menu slightly but still have some of the classic favorites.
The secret to making this salad right is that you need to use large-curd high-fat cottage cheese. It just isn’t the same when you use something different. The dressing is Poppy Seed and they used to sell jars of it in the gift shop. Maybe they still do.
It’s a very elegant salad to serve for a luncheon, and extremely tasty.
