I’ve owned several mandoline slicers (including the very pricey Pampered Chef Ultimate Mandoline) and this is the best one I’ve had. What I didn’t like about the Pampered Chef was that you could not use it without the food holder because it wouldn’t work right if that wasn’t locked into place and it was just a huge pain in the rear. I threw it away after it annoyed me one too many times (if you knew how much I paid for it you’d understand how annoyed I was). The Swissmar Borner is much simpler with less options (and much less expensive) and I’ve been very happy with it. I do use it without the food holder and yes you have to be SUPER careful if you do this. The thing is sharper than sharp but of course that makes it very good at cutting the food.
These are so helpful when you’re trying to make things like zucchini lasagna and au gratin potatoes. They’re so much faster than cutting by hand and of course make a much prettier slice.
This one slices in 2 widths and juliennes in 2 widths. So far all the options have been sufficient and I have not wished for more.
It also closes up nicely and neatly (and takes up much less space than the Pampered Chef Mandoline). It locks for safety, which is nice if you’ve got little prying hands.
Overall just a very nice design. I got mine on Amazon.
